I got this because I’m a starting photographer, along with the 50mm this camera is insane. I liked the controls on the olympus e-520 a little better, but got the hang of this. Don’t like that the scroll wheel is next to the shutter button, if it were like the Nikon or the Olympus where you can scroll with your thumb i think it would be faster to change speed & aperture. noticed the LCD screen is clearer than the olympus, but it seems sorta dim to me in daylight. i like that the anti-dust feature turns on when you shut it off to not slow down turn on time. portability obviously not good cuz its a big dslr, but i gave it 4 stars anyway because its lighter than my old film camera and just as solidly built. Grip was my main concern, not really comfy and doesn’t allow as firm a grip as nikon d3000 or olympus e520. those cameras feel like they were designed for the contours of your hand. Still, you could hold this with greasy hands, unlike those crappy slippery plasticky Pentax cameras that feel like those used up sweaty playstation controls at walmart. the buttons and layout of this camera remind me of the original xbox controller, it looks cool but when you try to use it its uncomfortable, sorta hurts, and you find that the shape of the buttons does not go well with the shape of your fingers or hand. I ultimately settled on this XS because Olympus has limited lenses, and i can’t afford any of them. The nikon d3000 although equally priced, has no live view or anti shake. regardless, im glad with my purchase, gave it 4 stars cuz it looks really cool but its actually kinda uncomfortable, the button layout once again focuses on aesthetics and looking cool, but could be more functional (thumb scroll wheel anyone?) it only uses SD cards so might be bad for ppl who want fast RAW photos. for JPEG though it is very fast. anti shake automatically turns on when you focus a picture. didn’t get the stock lens kit cuz i heard it sucks, but supposedly the newer IS version is way better than the old one, but i got the 50mm for this and it is crazy good. The fact that there are so many canon-fags out there kissing up to canon means i will find lots of used lenses for this. Anyway, respect to all cameras, they all have their ups and downs, but ultimately the canon had the most features for me, and lots of lenses means i can luckily find a cheap used one.

I’m surprised on how much stuff I got for the amount of money I paid. The Camera was in great shape and received the whole package. VERY convenient for a busy person so I don’t have to go to the store and buy each item needed separately.
Although, I have a few things that I am very disappointed about:
=The Digital Camera Cleaning kit: The lens cleaning fluid spilled and the cleaning kit box was soaking wet when I got it. Good thing it didn’t spill all over the contents of the package.
-The tripod box has dents and cracks on it. It looked like someone used their nail and scratched it open…
-The tripod itself looks old and used. The roller that brings up the pole would lock up and looks like it is about to break. The pole is shaky and has stains on it. Overall, I am very disappointed about the tripod because it is very unstable.
In the end, I would say my purchase is worth it. Just a few minor problems that downgraded my views about the seller.

Great DSLR. I believe that you get more than you pay for with this camera. I did tons of research before making this purchase. A big deciding factor with this camera was the live view option that it has. I’m just starting out in the photography business, and this camera is perfect for me at this point. Battery life is fantastic. Clarity is exceptional. Camera isn’t too heavy My only suggestion would be that if you buy a DSLR kit, purchase a seperate camera bag that is decent. The camera bag that came with this kit is already falling apart.

Understanding What the Anti Dust Feature is in Digital Slr Cameras
Digital cameras use a sensor known as CCD in order to convert light energy to pixels. Dust that accumulates on the CCD can result in black pixels or imperfections in the photo as it blocks light energy from hitting parts of the CCD. We will go over a few solutions for eliminating dust on the CCD.
The CCD sensor is located behind the reflex mirror in a digital SLR camera. When taking a photo the mirror moves and lets the light coming through the lenses hit the CCD which then converts the light to a series of pixels comprising the digital photo. Most of the time the camera is closed and dust can not penetrate it. Some cameras might not be completely sealed against dust resulting in dust penetrating he camera’s body even with the lenses installed. However in most cases the majority of dust exposure is when lenses are replaced. During that time the camera is open and exposed to air and dust.
In order to minimize dust on the CCD make sure that you minimize the time in which the camera is open and exposed to air. For example when changing lenses make sure that you are in a relatively clean environment and that you have the second lenses handy. Try to avoid changing lenses when in windy or dusty environment. Never take the lenses off a camera and leave the body open and exposed – either install other lenses or put a seal on the body to prevent dust penetration.
Even with careful care dust will eventually find its way into the camera and on the CCD. There are a few ways to get rid of that dust. Depending on your camera some of them will not be available to you.
Active dust removal: Most new SLR cameras include some sort of active dust removal mechanism. The most common one is anti dust vibration. This solution removes dust from the sensor by vibrating it in high frequency for a short period of time. Vibrating the CCD will result in dust falling off the CCD or “dancing its way” from the CCD. Different cameras turn the anti dust vibration at different times. Some cameras turn it on every time the camera is switched on, some every time it is switched off and some both when the camera is switched on and when it is switched off. Other cameras turn the vibration on periodically or let the user turn it manually.
Cameras that include an image stabilizer based on sensor movement usually also include anti dust vibration since they already include the mechanical part: a motor that can move the sensor and thus the anti dust vibration is a simply software addition.
Passive dust prevention: Passive solution that tries to eliminate some of the causes for dust accumulating on the CCD. The main reason that draws dust to the CCD is static charge. Some manufacturers add an anti-static coating on the outer layer of the CCD (usually this is the low pass filter layer). By doing that the CCD is less likely to attract dust due to its static charge.
Manual dust removal: Manual removal is simply a way for you to manually clean the CCD. When put in manual dust removal mode the camera moves the mirror and keeps it in a position where the CCD is exposed and is reachable. At that time you can try to blow off dust from the CCD for example by using an air blower. You could also use special cloth in order to clean the CCD but be very careful when doing that and make sure you read the manufacturers instructions for how to clean the CCD without damaging it. If you’re not sure how to clean the CCD it is better not to attempt cleaning as it can be easily damaged.
All dust removal methods have their limitations. Adhesive dust or other material is either very hard to clean or impossible to clean. Eliminating dust completely from the CCD is impossible but by applying care and the mentioned features most of the dust that results in photo imperfections can be avoided. For the casual photographer the built-in active or passive anti dust features should be enough and manual cleaning will not be needed.

So, I’ve been using point and shoots and becoming frustrated with the results. This is my first foray into DSLR land, and I have to say, I’m hooked! This has got to be the MOST versatile piece of equipment that I’ve ever owned. Of course there’s a learning curve, but once you get the hang of it, you’ll have problems putting this camera down.
